This stuffed Macaw is made entirely of recycled materials. Many stuffed animals contain pouches of plastic beads (nurdles), the same ones we find on shorelines, and in the ocean; that’s why we’ve eliminated these, and only offer nurdle-free hugs! We even hand sew our hang tags and use fabric for hanging rather than using the small plastic hook tags.
At approximately 100 cm from head to tip of tail, hyacinth macaws are the largest parrot species by length. They are found primarily in the Pantanal region of Brazil, eastern Bolivia, and northeastern Paraguay. As with other blue birds, their blue color comes not from a pigment, but from the structure of the feather. The feather contains tiny sponge-like structures with air bubbles that scatter light in such a way that the feathers appear blue. Hyacinth macaws are listed as a Vulnerable species, and are threatened by deforestation, as well as trapping for the pet trade.
